Gamma Kids: Clothing for Premature Babies in the NICU

Parents in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, NICU, face a great deal of uncertainty. New mothers who often have had to endure a traumatic birth, one that was not in their birth plan, are then faced with mixed emotions. A mother’s natural instincts to take care of her baby are taken over by professionals. Mothers, in fact, have to follow very strict instructions and are told when and how to touch, hold or feed their baby, often through an incubator porthole. This can cause a strong and exhausting feeling of powerlessness.

Gamma Kids is a range of clothing aimed at premature babies in the NICU that was established with these emotions in mind. The garments were designed with feedback from NICU nurses and parents and made for long hospital stays. Their onesies and caps come in two sizes: for micro-preemies (up to 4 lbs) and for preemie (4-6 lbs) babies in the NICU. They are made out of high quality 100% GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) Certified Organic Cotton, which is very delicate on baby’s newborn skin, and look adorable.

Gamma Kids products enable babies to be dressed with minimal disturbance as they accommodate monitors, blood pressure cuffs, and IVs. The kimono-style onesies are easier to put on, requiring less handling of the baby and a stress-free dressing. The special design allows parents and nurses to easily change diapers, measure temperature, switch cables and clean the baby. Gamma Kids onesies have been specifically designed 20% smaller than most name brand premature onesies on the market to fit all baby sizes.

Gamma Kids’ mission is to be known as the go-to preemie clothing brand and to bring light and color to the NICU setting through their fun, colorful and unique prints. The brand will be launching brand in January 2022 with the introduction of two solids and three prints. These 5 distinctive styles will be called ‘Pretty in Pink’, ‘Cool Grey’, ‘The Artist’, ‘The Dreamer’, and ‘The Academic’.

Gamma Kids founder Gabrielle Cols Azocar started her career working for brands like DKNY, Land’s End and Pottery Barn Kid. As a NICU mother herself, her line of preemie clothing designs come from a place of necessity and love. When Gabrielle had her premature son, Valentino, she was disappointed by the lack of appropriate clothing for her son. She therefore decided to use her talent in fashion design to help other parents like herself. Now, she’s launching a feel-good brand of children’s clothing with a purpose of giving. She is gratefully looking for your support to fund it via the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.  She has decided to donate a onesie to a NICU in need for every $25 campaign pledge towards the target goal.
